Community Backs Golf for Education Tournament; Advanced Health Care of Reno Defends Title

Oct 11, 2023

Fair weather, a friendly competition, generous donors and a great cause made the Western Nevada College Foundation's Golf for Education tournament successful on Sept. 29 at Toiyabe Golf Club.

The 24th annual tournament fundraiser, which provides more access to higher education for students and supports workforce development in the region, attracted a full field of 36 teams.

鈥淭hanks to all of 黑料网's supporters who participated, you've not only enjoyed a fantastic day of golf but also played a crucial role in creating a brighter future for students in need,鈥 said 黑料网 Foundation Executive Director Niki Gladys. 鈥淵our support ensures these students can earn the certifications necessary for securing meaningful employment and boosting Nevada's growing economy. Thank you to the amazing community for uniting and driving positive change through education.鈥

Participants embraced the 18-hole scramble competition by purchasing mulligans and as much as 40 feet of putting string. As a result, an eagle was a common score for the top teams in the tournament.

Although Advanced Health Care of Reno didn鈥檛 score quite as well as it did last year, the defending champions still played exceptionally well in retaining its title. The foursome of Johnny Hunt, Aaron Copeland, Matt Ewert and Brendan Ryder shot a 32-under-par 40 to defend their title by two shots over the Metcalf Builders team of Bryce Clutts, Joel Grace, Brian Arbogast and Matt DeRicco. Earning third place with a score of 29-under-par 43 was Washoe Wealth鈥檚 Greg Raleigh, Mario Garibotti, Tim Kawcak and Roman Mudd.

Players were treated to a hearty breakfast hosted by Chick-fil-A,a long drive contest, on-course refreshments, raffle prizes, a chance to launch the powerful golf ball cannon, a delicious BBQ lunch, an awards ceremony and a team photo capturing their fun time on the golf course.

"The 黑料网 Golf for Education annual tournament is a great way to support our students while bringing together college supporters,鈥 said 黑料网 President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe.

Nevada System of Higher Education Regent Donald Sylvantee McMichael Sr. won the putting contest, nearly holing the 60-foot putt. His winning putt struck the pin, spun around the cup before resting just over a foot from an ace.

Other winners included Keith Savage, representing the Lyon County School District team, taking closest-to-the pin on the 12th hole by landing his tee shot within 12 feet, 3 inches of the hole. Long drive winners were Robin Ponte (Joe and Darcy鈥檚 team) and Alex Smagala (Pacific Office).

Besides the players and participating businesses, the Foundation extends a special thanks to volunteers and event sponsors, including Gilbane, Briggs Electric, Dick Campagni鈥檚 Capital Ford, Dick Campagni鈥檚 Carson City Toyota, Michael Hohl Subaru, Northern Nevada Development Authority, Chick-fil-A, Allison MacKenize Attorneys and Counselors at Law, Metcalf Builders, Classic Finishes, Greater Nevada Credit Union, Duncan Golf Management, Washoe Wealth Advisors and tournament host Toiyabe Golf Club.
